Australia Holiday 2007 - Swan Valley

The first week was spent in the Swan Valley area of Perth, Western Australia. This is where my Uncle Tom and Auntie Sylvia live. This is also a big wine growing region (not that I was particularly interested in that!).....

Me in front of our little house at the River Retreat (near Guildford). This was on the fight path to Perth airport and I swear to you that some nights I was convinced I was going to get dragged along with the house into the air intake of passing jets. I also had suicidal jet lag at this point so was not the most happy camper.

Me ruining a perfectly good walk at the mini-golf next door.

Emma clearly looks like she knows what she is doing.

Our hired chariot for the holiday - Hyundai Accent - with air conditioning (which we certainly would of died without) and the indicator stalk on the wrong side! Nice little motor though - Australia is full of these little cars. In a country this hot the wise tend to buy a white car.

Dad and Mike (my big bruv) had the Toyota people carrier on hire. This was an automatic with.... no hand brake (just a pedal). I don't even want to talk about my attempts to drive it.

When in Rome..... Emma tends the BBQ.

Still in Rome here - at someone else's BBQ (neighbours of my uncle & auntie).

The Perth area has a nice reliable and cheap train service - this is the station in Guildford.

Kangaroo on the Vines golf course - also the area where my uncle and auntie live. Although this guy looks cute and cuddly, it is a very bad idea to try and impose your friendship on these 'roos - they can really handle themselves (the popular image is that of them boxing with their paws - but it's those big back legs that he uses to kick ass). I hope he doesn't find out about the bags of kangaroo Jerky that Emma brought back as a pressie for a work colleague....

Emma, Dervla, Orla and George in company with some 'roos. Orla is doing a half hearted 'roo impression.

Orla & George being kept under observations by a particularly mean looking gang of 'roos.

My luverly missus at Hillary's Harbour. We were so impressed with this place that we spent two separate days here.

The signpost at the harbour - it is worth noting that Sydney is a bloody long way from here.

Going on holiday is a time when one tries out new food and experiences and broadens the mind. With this goal clearly in mind, here are the girls and George (and my long lost cousin, Zoe) eating some fish and chips at Hillary's Harbour.

Going off the jetty at the Harbour...

... and the splashdown.

Me on the beach next door (the rough one that was not protected by a harbour wall!).
