I must admit that I am rather taken with Borders - especially as they have a branch of Starbucks inside every bookshop they open. They also have a pretty good line in CD's and videos (as well as mucho listening posts for you to plug into, stand about and stare into space with). This is a good place to browse your life away - and fill up with caffeine when this becomes too demanding - check out the Ellesmere Port or Speke branches - huge!
Osprey do a good line in Military Paperbacks - non fiction. These come in series that focus on one battle, one campaign or a particular corps or regiment.
This is a very good site about George Orwell - the man who will depress you half to death should you ever pick up a copy of 1984.
