A Trip to Chelford Truckfest
July 2005
Late July 2005 I found out that there was a truckfest going on in deepest rural Cheshire - I thought I would pop along with my camera being as I have a bit of a soft spot for trucks - especially old crusty ones from the 1970's....

Atkison Borderer - the much loved BIG A.....
Yet another Big A - the fact that there loads of these in preservation must mean that they were really built to last.....
The Scammel Crusader - the fact that these were overpowered to the hilt means that nearly all of the ones you see nowadays are employed as wreckers or heavy haulers...
Classic old AEC Matador.....
A Leyland Comet.....
A Foden Tanker - not so sure about that inflatable passenger......
Classic rigid ERF....
The star of the show by my reckoning - Scammel Routeman - restored to Shell colours - but if he was a real pal he would have done it in ICI orange & white - as driven by my dad in the 1970's.......
The cab has that classic 1970's spartan feel about it - not a cruise control, radio or air-con unit in sight.
Thought I would finish off this set with the two foreign imposters - you see once upon a time we did actually have other industries than call centres and hospitality management. Everything above this big old USA Mack was built in the UK - and when the Foden name is shortly discontinued by Paccar all of the names will cease to exist as well.
