Live @ Crewe Limelight Club
11th April 2004
Martin accompanied me to Crewe Limelight Club to see In the Cage - a top Genesis Tribute Band play (obviously I had to sedate Martin first - he's a synth band fan and definitely not a prog man)...In The Cage are a superb Covers Band and they mainly concentrate on what many people consider classic Genesis - the look is most certainly of the classic Gabriel era as you can see below.....
The Keyboardist, Henry Dagg, under the blue lights during the intro to Watcher of the Skies - it could almost be the sleeve to Seconds Out! The big block in the lower half of the picture is a genuine Mellotron (I bet Manweb were wondering where all the power was being drained to!) - no soft-synths for these guys!
There's a bit of a red thing going on here.... the band under the lights...
Ah that's better - I finally turn the flash on so I can get an idea of who I am watching - l to r - Maurice Hendricks - bass and guitar, Patrick Heron - Guitar and flute, Trevor Garrard - vocals and outfits, Mark Jordan - drums and percussion, Henry Dagg on Keys...
The guitarists, Maurice and Patrick, under the lights....almost having another Seconds Out moment....note the use of a twin necked bass/guitar - how do you ever expect to be taken seriously playing Genesis tracks without one?
I don't know what photographic disaster has took place here but Trevor appears to be phasing out....now that would be a cool trick to pull in any gig!
... Henry caught mid solo
a little visit to the Firth of Fifth and Patrick has to put his flute hat on....
...on the subject of hats, intrepid Trevor dons his Batgear and face paint for Watcher of the Skies...
...I'm either in the cage or an extra in the Sanitarium scenes of Bram Stoker's Dracula....
.... A Flower? - the Willow Farm section of Supper's Ready required a visit to Compost Corner (anyone who did not grow up in the 1970's and watch TISWAS will be scratching their heads now)....
......the closing scenes of Supper's Ready required a change into this... you can also see it on the front of the first live Genesis Album....
... the most down to earth outfit of the night....
... it isn't easy being Genesis - when you have not got mega venue stage space to use - the lads are almost shoulder to shoulder - a bit dangerous when you have a double necked guitar!
The Famous Charisma Drumkit - set up in very much the Phil Collins manner (but obviously not left handed) - Pearl and Turkish Bronze on show....
