Manchester Jazz Festival August 2003 - Jon Thorne's Oedipus Complex Live @ Bridgewater Hall, Manchester

After being on shift, I was conscious of the fact that I had missed most of the Manchester Jazz Festival held in early August. After waiting for what seemed like an eternity in the lobby of the rather magnificent Bridgewater hall (somewhere I have never been before), we were let in for a performance by Jon Thorne's Oedipus Complex - a rather tight 5 piece. For full details see the What's New Page....

This is me outside the aforementioned Bridgewater Hall - sat up against a big pebble. Some builders are obviously very casual when it comes to removing building material they did not use!

Jon and his mates (Jon plays bass) run through a very tight piano based piece, obviously only designed for a trio so the horn section could visit the bar....

Thanking the fans for their attention and applause.....

The superb Gretsch jazz kit (jazz kits typically involve smaller sizes - such as 18" bass drums) belonging to the drummer, Nicolag Bjerre - a nice understated kit - for a nice subtle performance...

I'm not saying I'm predictable - but there were these Miles Davis CD's in the HMV sale....
