Liverpool June 2008

There have been a few changes in Liverpool as of late, mainly due to Liverpool being the city of culture for 2008. The main building recently has been the Liverpool 1 shopping centre so when I made one of my semi-regular jaunts out to Liverpool I decided to take the camera.....

So this is what everyone is raving about, the new John Lewis right in the middle of the Liverpool1 development. OK - so it's certainly nicer than what used to be here (a horrible 1970's hotel), but I rather liked the old John Lewis (and still prefer to call it George Henry Lee)...

OK so I will concede that the new development is nice - but it needs more shops....

Out in the Mersey, a couple of Ireland Ferries....

One thing that City of Culture means is that you get to fill your streets up with fibreglass art - these are the Superlamb-Bananas that are appearing all over the city.......

Part of the Holocaust exhibit at the Museum - a pile of locally donated glasses....

Getting a bit bored with all of this new stuff, I decided to point my camera on what must be one of the best war memorials in Europe, the Liverpool Great War Memorial. Above is the Lime Street side, depicting mourning families....

This is the other side of the memorial, facing St George's Hall, depicting the Soldiers....

Close up of the same side as above. Thousands of people must drive past this everty day without getting a chance to see the detail this close.
